A fin tube machine manufactures spirally crimped finned tubes by winding a fin strip around a base tube under tension and crimping it to form interlocking ridges, creating a secure mechanical bond between fin and tube without welding.

How it works

The base tube feeds through the machine while a continuous fin strip is wound around it in a spiral at a precise angle. As the strip is wound, the machine crimps it against the tube surface, forming interlocking ridges that lock the fin mechanically to the tube. This mechanical bond — rather than a welded one — is what gives the finished tube its heat transfer performance, since a tight, continuous contact between fin and tube base is what actually conducts heat efficiently, and the interlocking crimp keeps that contact intact under thermal cycling and vibration in service.
